For the first time in many years, Wodonga Golf Club has been represented by a Junior Pennant team in the NEDGA.
The boys travelled out to Howlong today to take on Rutherglen in their first junior pennant match of the season.
The boys were ultra keen, but since their manager missed an email, had to wait just a bit longer to get started after we arrived just over an hour early.
Noah Gamble was first to get us going. After dropping the first hole, Noah put the pedal down and never looked back, winning his match 6&5.
Next up was Adam Packer who worked hard all day. He took an early lead, maintained his composure and held it until getting the win 4&3.
Kalum Porteus took an early 1 up lead thru 5 holes, and took his match all the way to the end. With 1 down and 1 to play he could only manage to halve the last hole giving his opponent the match.
Cooper McElhinney was solid all day, kept his cool and shaking hands 4 up with 2 to play.
Last was our Captain Beau Gray. His opponent played far better than his handicap and took beau to the 18th all square.
But a captain stands up when it matters, with Beau securing the win on the last.
Overall Wodonga wins 4 to 1.
The club should be very proud of these kids. They played great golf and represented our club with respect and great sportsmanship. Well done boys!
Next Sunday we play Yarrawonga at Mansfield at 10am. We’ll meet up on Friday afternoon at the Golf club at 4:30pm for a training session.
