Junior Pennant Update
27 Apr by Jenny Garner
The boys travelled out to Rutherglen to take on Benalla on Sunday. Due to a number of other commitments we were a bit under manned however still put up a very competitive team.
I only got to see Jacob Baude play and he was first up. He was very nervous having to tee off in front of everyone but once he settled in he managed to stay quite competitive.
He lost the first hole, won the second, but by the end of the front nine he was 5 down. Jacob hung in there though, getting it back to 4 then squaring the holes until eventually going down 5&4. I was very proud of the way Jacob kept his cool and kept having fun even though the result didn’t go his way.
Noah Gamble was up next in a close match that went all the way to the 18th. Noah eventually lost 1 down and tells me that if it wasn’t for the bark on the ground he would have won.
Harry McLeish had one of the toughest opponents that Benalla has. Hits the ball straight and goes for miles and I was told by some of the other Benalla guys that she is in a golf scholarship program. But that didn’t bother Harry as he took the match to the 18th and won 1 up!
I didn’t get much feedback from Kalum, but my guess is long ball off the tee didn’t intimidate his opponent too much. Kalum’s match went to 18 and he lost 1 down.
If you had seen Beau on Saturday you would not have thought he’d be playing golf again on Sunday. The young lad could barely walk let alone swing a club. But Beau proved that he is a young man of focus, determination and sheer will. He pushed himself around Rutherglen and ended up beating his opponent 5&4.
Unfortunately Wodonga ended up going down to Benalla 3 to 2.
However the good news is Wodonga finished the season second on the ladder! They won 2 matches, lost 1 match and squared their other match meaning they head into the Final this Sunday at Wangaratta to take on Howlong.
Please get around and congratulate the boys if you see any of them around the club. I personally would like to thank all of the boys who got a chance to represent the club in pennant this year
Cooper McElhinney, Beau Gray, Kalum Porteous, Adam Packer, Noah Gamble, Sam Coonan, Harry McLeish, Jacob Baude.
I also want to thank Supreme Forklift Services and Border Switchboards Sheetmetal & Powdercoating for their support of our Pennant Teams.
Good luck in the Final Boys!
