Junior Pennant Update

4 May by Jenny Garner

On Sunday our team travelled to Wangaratta to take on Howlong in the NEDGA Junior Pennant Final.
Beau Gray, Cooper McElhinney, Kalum Porteous, Harry McLeish and Noah Gamble all represented our club in great spirit and brought along some very high level golf.
The boys fought hard, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough, going down to Howlong 4-1.
Noah worked hard getting his match back to square a couple of times but eventually went down 4&3
Harry was great off the tee however chipping and putting just wasn’t there, he lost 7&6
Kal put the foot down and left his opponent behind. Winning his match 6&4
Beau’s match was close all day, but a couple of holes where his opponent had shots made the difference in the end, going down 3&2
Cooper was the same, playing some really good golf and playing to his handicap, but having to give away shots on holes proved the difference losing 5&3
Congratulations goes to Howlong for playing some really good golf and were deserved winners. All matches were competitive and played in the right spirit. Wodonga will be back next season for a rematch!
I’d like to thank everyone who represented our Club in the respective pennant teams this year, especially all the boys who played Juniors and I'd like to thank all the parents and supporters for getting them to the courses and supporting them in their love of the game.
I’d also like to thank our sponsors, Supreme Forklift Services and Border Switchboards Sheetmetal & Powdercoating for their support of the pennant teams this year.
A personal thankyou also goes out to Casey Gamble and Darren Smedley for helping me out with some of the coaching and tactics.
For me, this was a great experience and I’m proud to get our junior program up and running again at Wodonga Golf Club. I got to see some cracking golf played by some talented youngsters and I’m really looking forward to next junior pennant season.
We have the Wodonga Junior Open coming up Sunday 17th May and I encourage all junior members at Wodonga Golf club to enter and compete.
